  1. Bugs- The mosquitos and black flies in Muskoka are make being outside hard to enjoy at their peak months, however there are a few things you can do to reduce their interest in you. Wearing light coloured clothing is always a must, as well as bug spray and bug jackets. For those with long hair, wearing your hair up and in a hat is also helpful.
  2. Footwear- As any avid hiker will tell you, proper footwear can be the difference between a difficult and painful hike and an enjoyable adventure in nature. Ensure you are wearing supportive running shoes or hiking boots, and that they are broken-in around the house before hand to avoid blisters and rubbing.
  3. Wildlife- When hiking in Muskoka, it is always important to be aware of and respectful of wildlife. Remember, you’re in their home! Singing songs and making noise while you're in the woods will allow wildlife like bears to hear you coming and run away, they are very non-confrontational animals. If you surprise a bear in the wild, remain calm, don't look them in the eyes, make yourself big, and back up slowly without turning your back to the animal. Don't run!

See you out on the trails,
